Our Issue
Alzheimer’s is the only top-10 cause of death in the U.S. with no known cure.
More than 6 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Of the total U.S. population, more than 1 in 9 people (11.3%) age 65 and older has Alzheimer’s. The percentage of people with Alzheimer’s increases with age: 5.3% of people ages 65 to 74, 13.8% of people ages 75 to 84, and 34.6% of people 85 and older. 1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia, killing more than breast and prostate cancer combined.
Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth
leading cause of death
OUR MISSION
UsAgainstAlzheimer’s Action is a relentless advocacy force committed to ending Alzheimer’s disease that presses for greater urgency from government, industry and the scientific community in the drive for effective treatments, prevention and ultimately an Alzheimer’s cure. Since 2010, we accomplished this through leadership and collaborative advocacy.
UsAgainstAlzheimer’s Action played a key role in the 4300 million increase for FY 2021 that was approved by Congress for Alzheimer’s research funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In part because of the work UsAgainstAlzheimer’s Action, annual funding for NIH research increased significantly from yearly averages of $400 million a decade earlier to the $3.1 billion level in FY 2021.
